About this release
There are songs about someone who's gone far away, and songs about someone who's gone altogether. This one belongs to the second kind, and I'd rather say that plainly than hide it behind the word distance.
I didn't write it to sit in sadness. Most of the time it sounds more like company than grief: the idea that someone can still be part of your everyday life even when they're not in front of you anymore — in the way you look at the moon, in who you talk to when there's no one else in the room.
If there's a promise in this song, it's not about forgetting or getting over it — it's that there's a reunion waiting at the end of all this, and that until then, that person — one of the closest bonds I've ever had — is still living in me in a very specific way, not as some blurry memory.

When something like this really happens to you, singing about it head-on almost never works — it comes out either too dramatic or too dry. So instead of telling the story, I kept to the small scenes: a light that never quite goes out, a voice you think you hear in the silence, a hug that hasn't arrived yet but that you know is coming.
I don't want to say here who the song is about — some things I'd rather keep inside the song and out of the catalogue notes. But there's one thing I can clear up: I didn't write it thinking of just any love, but from a very concrete, very close presence — the kind that, to me, is family, and stays family even once they're gone.
Musically it's the most open ballad I've got in the catalogue so far — built to be sung out loud without worrying it might break. If the chorus leans so hard on the word eternal, it's because, for this particular song, I couldn't find another one that said the same thing without falling short.
