Justo Aquí

Justo Aquí rests on a very simple texture: discreet accompaniment and the voice up close. It's one of my shortest, stillest songs, and that's exactly what it's about. A moment when nothing happens on the outside, but inside something quietly settles into place.

There's no big story. There are two people, an ordinary while together, and the feeling that you don't need to rush, or promise, or prove anything to be all right. The lyric gives up looking for answers and stays with the small truths that arrive without noise. It ends on a very calm decision: right here is where I want to stay.

The sound follows that idea. No grand gestures: a simple accompaniment, the voice in the foreground, a slow tempo and a warm tone. It's short because it didn't need to be longer. The moment it captures was brief too.

It's a short, intimate song, and I wanted it to be. It's told in the first person, about something that shifted inside me and didn't need dressing up. I wasn't after important. I was after true.

What it tells can look like almost nothing from the outside, but it says a lot with few words: that exact moment when you realise that, right here, you're okay. I didn't want to overplay it. No epiphanies, no grand declarations. Moments like that happen quietly and you barely notice until later. The song tries to catch one while it's happening.

The whole song points to the last line: the decision, said quietly, to stay right here. It isn't a big philosophical conclusion. It's something much more modest and concrete, staying. And a humble song like that was, in the end, hard to write without it sounding like nothing.

At the start I left a small rhythmic gesture, that tan, tan, tan I tend to use to find the pulse of a melody. I could have taken it out, but it's a natural part of how I write and I preferred to keep it. Halfway through there's a string interlude, a small pause that opens the sound a little and gives the key moment some air. Then the song settles back into the singer-songwriter pulse with the emotional folk touch from before. It's there to breathe for a second, not to turn the song into something else.
