About this release
The lyrics move through places that really exist: the Serpis running down to the sea, the breeze off La Safor, the Grau, the smell of orange blossom. But it isn't a tourist postcard. It's one specific night, with someone whose hand you take at the water's edge, and a city that at that hour blurs into that person. It's never quite clear whether I'm singing to her or to the place, and I like it that way.
Under the dancing there's one small thing that to me is the heart of the song: turning fear into melody, letting the night and the company take the fright off you. The sound is bright and made for moving, but I didn't want it to be only a party. Under the shine there's someone who, for one night, stops feeling sad.
Song notes
I played on purpose with the mix-up between the city and the person. When I say it lights up my voice or that I hand over my soul, it works for someone and it works for the place. Gandia isn't scenery here, it's almost another character, with its streets, its harbour and its river running down to the sea. I put in the real names from the area without hesitating. I wanted anyone from here to recognise home, and anyone who isn't to picture it.
And even though it sounds like a celebration, there's a thread underneath: someone who arrives still spooked and, through dancing and the sea, slowly lets it go. That's why I made it bright but with some body. You can dance to it, of course, but if you pay attention you also notice that small relief of turning sadness into movement.
