Una Foto Y Un Beso

When Gemma sent me this lyric, the first thing I thought was how current it was: a love story built entirely out of what we have on hand today — a photo, a message, a kiss sent through a screen at some late hour of the night. I didn't want to cool it down with synths; the opposite, really — I wanted to give some human warmth to something that usually happens down a cable.

That's why I leaned it on a Spanish guitar. The contrast felt right to me: the oldest, warmest tool I know put to work for the newest, coldest way we have of loving each other. I kept Gemma's voice very close, barely any reverb, so it sounded like a confidence — someone talking to you quietly through the phone, not someone singing on a stage.

There's an insistence in the lyric — asking the other person when they'll come, wanting to break their fear — that could sound like pressure if it isn't sung right. I preferred it to sound like what I think it actually is: not a demand, but an enormous longing said under the breath. The song doesn't end on a yes; it stays waiting for one more night, and to me that honesty is lovelier than a made-to-order happy ending.
